About LCA!

A gathering place for African cinema and culture

The festival

More than
a screening
programme.

LCA! is a creative platform where cinema exists alongside music, literature, art, hospitality, live performance and conversation.

These elements are not incidental to the festival; they are central to its philosophy. We believe cinema reaches its fullest meaning when it becomes part of a shared cultural life—when the boundary between the film on screen and the life happening around it becomes intentionally porous.

Through curated screenings, filmmaker conversations and interdisciplinary programming, LCA! creates opportunities to encounter different perspectives, nurture creative talent and build community around film.

Why LCA!

Stories are meant to be shared

African stories deserve audiences, but they also deserve context, reflection and a record that lasts beyond the moment of screening.

LCA! brings filmmakers, writers, artists, cultural leaders and audiences into conversation with one another and with the world around them. It is a place where culture is not consumed from a distance but experienced collectively.

We believe cinema remains one of the most powerful ways through which societies can understand themselves and imagine their futures.

Rooted in Lagos

From film programme to cultural gathering

Lights, Camera, AFRICA! grew out of the film programme at The Life House Lagos and developed into an annual festival in 2011.

Since then, LCA! has become a distinctive platform for African and independent cinema, bringing screenings, workshops, talks, performances and cultural exchange to audiences in Lagos.

At the centre of this history is a simple belief: cinema gives people a reason to gather.

LCA! Film Festival 2026

CONVIVIUM: IN GATHERING

For its 2026 edition, LCA! celebrates gathering and living together.

From 1–3 October at Muson Centre in Lagos, the festival brings together films, filmmakers and audiences for three days of cinema, conversation, performance and community.

This year’s programme extends beyond screenings to consider the publications, texts, conversations and documentation that surround cinema. It asks how cultural experiences can foster reflection, connection and a richer shared life.
